How to build an effective content marketing strategy with Lee Odden at SES San Francisco

Jamie O’Donnell, SEO-PR, interviews Lee Odden, TopRank Online Marketing, on the subject of content marketing at SES San Francisco 2010. Marketers typically try to capture content based on demand, according to Lee. But in using a content marketing strategy, marketers should be identifying buyer personas and analyzing the information consumption needs and preferences of consumers, and optimize for it. Lee describes it as putting the customer first rather than the behavior first. Lee says in order to create a content marketing strategy marketers must create an editorial plan, similar to a publisher, and know first how they are going to promote it once it is published. Then Lee describes the various search channels that marketers must integrate into their online content marketing strategy starting off with Google and YouTube. Then it’s a battle between the number of queries logged by Twitter and the various third party real-time applications such as TweetDeck, plus search engines, Yahoo and Bing.

Lee then elaborates on the possible reasons why marketers have been late into the game when it comes to integrating the social media platform, YouTube, as part of their overall content marketing strategy. To implement an effective content marketing strategy, Lee says businesses must become familiar with the search results for their target keyword phrases and constantly monitor the search and social media landscape to see what is being featured about them and their products.

MyNextCustomer Dashboard Provides SEO and Social Call Tracking

Greg Jarboe, SEO-PR, interviews George Revutsky, CEO, MyNextCustomer. George talks about the origins of his company, MyNextCustomer.com, why it was created and later shows examples of how his company’s software works using his iPad. George begins by explaining how he had been working in search marketing and had to spend 30 to 40% of his time pulling together reports for his clients; these included pulling reports from Adwords, Yahoo, email marketing, Google analytics. But pulling these reports was very time intensive. George decided that the pulling of these reports could be automated and his company developed software to do so in real-time. MyNextCustomer originally started off integrating paid search, then SEO as part of its software offerings, then moved on to incorporate ways of tracking offline marketing and came up with MyNextCustomer.

MyNextCustomer is a simple dashboard that enables search marketers to pull all of their marketing data into one place, analyze the return on adspend and on the lifetime value, and tell you what is working and what isn’t and do so in five minutes.

Prior to founding MyNextCustomer, George spent eight years as founder and CEO of ROI.works Search Marketing, Inc. His clients there have included Union Bank, Apple, American Capital Strategies (ACAS), Signatures Network/Live Nation (LYV), 3PAR (PAR), COIT Cleaners, Mini, and Cardstore.com.

Google SEO Update, Yahoo Update, Bing Fun & Google Local Blunder

http://www.SERoundtable.com/ – This week, I try to get fancier with my video set up and integrate multiple video sources, including my monitor – let’s see how that goes. I posted the Google webmaster report for January. There were rumors Caffeine went live, but it did not. More people are seeing the Google blue Jazz interface. Malware is becoming a bigger and bigger issues. Was there a Yahoo Search update or was it the paid inclusion results being removed? Google’s local business privacy blunder caused some overall concern. Google may return the SEO and web design local pack? Bing says they are slow and recommends you spam Digg or Yahoo Buzz. Microsoft adCenter offered free clicks, well – not really. AdWords tests a CPA lead form and also click to call on mobile phones. Also, most PPCers have participated in bid wars, while most advertisers are not afraid to make changes to their accounts. Finally Googlers were working on New Years and Google animated their logo for Issac Newton. That was this past week at the Search Engine Roundtable.
